When your dog arrives at Dairydell, they enter a structured, calm farm environment unlike any kennel they’ve likely experienced. The 40-acre property — with open fields, working livestock, and a dedicated training arena — provides the kind of real-world distraction exposure that accelerates behavioral change in ways a classroom simply can’t replicate.
Each day your dog works directly with professional trainers in individual sessions, then returns to a supervised board environment where the leadership structure they’re learning is consistently reinforced. The immersion is the point: behavioral change that sticks happens when the new expectations are constant, not one hour a week.
Your dog will also encounter the farm’s natural distractions — other animals, open spaces, new sights and sounds — under professional guidance. By the time they come home, “Come” in a distracted real-world environment is no longer a maybe.
Before your dog comes home, you’ll attend a personalized owner class with one of our trainers. They’ll show you exactly how to activate and reinforce your dog’s new skills — using the same techniques that worked here. Most owners are genuinely surprised by how different (and better) this hand-off feels compared to being handed a pamphlet at the end of an obedience class.
After your dog graduates, you’re also invited to our monthly owner maintenance classes — held on-site, themed monthly, geared to your dog’s training level. It keeps skills sharp and gives you a community of Dairydell graduates to train alongside.
Clients come from throughout the North Bay and Bay Area — Marin, Napa, Sonoma, the East Bay, and San Francisco. The drive is worth it for most families because what we offer simply isn’t available closer to home.
No. Board & Train is available to new clients. You will need to complete a New Client Registration and bring your dog in for a brief boarding assessment before your training dates are scheduled. This is a one-time process — once you’re a client, future bookings are quick.
Current Rabies, DHPP, Bordetella, and CIV vaccinations are required. Ask your vet to send records directly to info@dairydell.com before your assessment.
We ask that owners hold off on visits during the training period — your dog is working hard, and visits can reset the leadership dynamic we’re building. We’re always available by phone to give you updates.
Some drift is natural — which is why owner training is built into every program. Our monthly maintenance classes are designed specifically for graduates whose skills need refreshing. And for significant regression, our 3-Day Refresher course is available.
We don’t use Board & Train as the first step for dogs with serious aggression issues. We’d start with a private Expert Behavior Consultation to assess the dog and map the right path forward.
Training fees and boarding fees are quoted separately so you only pay for the training level your dog needs. Boarding rates are available when you call to discuss your enrollment.
